About FinDS
FinDS is a new program about the mathematical Foundations in Data Science and is based on the success of Program in Algorithmic and Combinatorial Thinking (PACT). The creator of that program, Dr. Rajiv Gandhi, is bringing his expertise to UC San Diego to create FinDS. Like PACT, FinDS will have multiple groups of engagement. For the summer of 2023, this program will be held both in-person and virtually.
Group 1 is the first opportunity of engagement and consists of high school students attending 3 weeks of class on UC San Diego campus. This opportunity will be both in-person and virtual. Students have a choice which engagement they prefer.
Year-Round, held virtually, is an opportunity for Group 1 students to virtually participate in 2 meetings a month to keep up with what they've learned throughout the academic year.
Group 2 , which starts summer 2024, is for students who qualify based on attending and performance of the previous 2 engagements to attend an advanced version of this course.
FinDS is possible because of NSF funded EnCORE and is part of their outreach efforts.
A new National Science Foundation initiative has created a $10 million dollar institute led by Prof. Barna Saha at the University of California San Diego that aims to transform the core fundamentals of the rapidly emerging field of Data Science.
Called The Institute for Emerging CORE Methods in Data Science (EnCORE), the institute will be in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and The Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI), and will tackle foundational problems in the emerging areas of Data Science.
